Wifi Driver files on Imac

I have Xubuntu running on and elderly IMac, This worked fine except I had to edit the WiFi driver to get any performance out of it. So far So good. I am thinking of moving to Ubuntu (or if upcoming new LTS requires new install rather than in place upgrade) I will need to go through the process again with the WiFi driver.....
Now here come the question....Is it possible to copy the driver file then simply paste into new linux install and if yes what file(s) to copy?? Expert help needed
