help with phone sync. !!! please.

so i am running ubuntu 15.10 on a toshiba satellite c55. i just recently purchased an iphone 4. running ios version 7.1.2 i cannot get the two to sync for the life of me. i have tried installing itunes with playonlinux, and with wine. neither worked. so i opened a virtualbox session and ran windows 7 ultimate and was able to install and run itunes. but again they would not recognize each other and sync. so i tried using banshee to put some music on my iphone. it shows that the music is synced on my laptop but when i go to music on my phone it is empty. this happens with music pictures videos. basically everything. lol can anybody help me. there must be something that i am overlooking. or doing wrong somewhere. thanks.
