Which linux for A1224? Ubuntu??

Hi folks, am reviving an old imac

iMac 20" – Early 2008
2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (E8135)

Think it only has 2Gb of ram to start with - if I am to use it will upgrade to 4gb (even 6) and an SSD.

Which Linux distro would be good to try out???

Also, can I just install by selecting USB on the startup menu (holding OPTIO/ALT during load) Or are there major problems installing linux when there is a Recovery partition for MaC Os already set up??
