I can't find my original post so I am doing it again

Hi,
I am trying to load ubuntu onto a bootable external usb drive and getting nothing but aggravation. I have tried Rufus, useless. PowerISO no good. I am looking for something that is easy to use and works.
I am not liking the way the ubuntu community is providing help so far. That could change. I also am unable to find my post in the forum index.
