HDD in standby

I recently built a home media server that I also want to use as a nas. However my 4tb hdd is in standby and I'm not sure how to turn off standby. I tried the "wake-up from standby" button in the disk utility, but that did not work. I'm very new to linux so I'm not sure if there is an update or something that I have to install for it to work but I am very confused.
