Blu-Ray playback using VLC

The only way to do Blu-Ray playback on Ubuntu that I know is using VLC. The problems with that are:
It has to be a non-SNAP-ed version;
The VLC version that comes form apt is 3.0.16, which is too old for me (doesn't do Chromecast streaming);
Compiling 3.0.17 SC is buggy, hence out of the question.

Bottom line is, I don't seem to have a way to install VLC 3.0.17 using the usual venues. Does anyone know of another repository that contains a VLC that is newer than 3.0.16? How about a .deb package for VLC 3.0.17 or newer?
