regular usb keys can be mounted automatically, but external hardrive on 22.04

On Lubuntu 22.04, regular usb keys can be mounted automatically, but an external hardrive can not be mounted. On two other different computers with Lubuntu 22.04, no issues.
journalctl -xe | grep -i usb does not show any errors. The drive is detected correctly when it is un/plugged. What could be wrong?
