Apache goes down frequently: mod_watchdog is required

Symptoms

• Apache service goes down frequently

• The following errors can be found in the Apache error log /var/log/httpd/error_log:

Code Select Expand

AH03262: mod_watchdog is required
AH00020: Configuration Failed, exiting


• The following errors can be found in the system log /var/log/messages:

Code Select Expand

systemd[1]: httpd.service: Reload operation timed out. Killing reload process.
Systemd[1]: httpd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
Cause
The watchdog module is required for Apache to work, however it is disabled on the server

Resolution

• Log into Plesk
• Go to Plesk > Tools & Settings > Apache Web Server
• Enable the watchdog Apache module
• Press OK
