Issues with GloriousEggroll proton version 5.6 GE-2

I've been trying to install the latest GloriousEggroll build of proton to work with Steam, but it just never shows up in the list of available Proton builds. I've tried the method of creating the compatabilitytools.d folder in the /local/share/Steam directory, as well as putting it under the /.steam/Steam/ directory, but neither works for me. I also checked that the version I downloaded was the correct size and had all its contents. I'm new to using Ubuntu and Linux as a whole so it's possible I'm just missing a step or something, but any help would be appreciated
