Title: Is it possible to upgrade a Plesk server from CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 9?
Post by: senthil on Oct 22, 2025, 06:42 AM
Question

Plesk prepared a CLI script that in place converts Centos 7 to AlmaLinux 8. Is it possible to convert further to AlmaLinux 9?

Answer

The script is based on the Alma Linux ELevate project (https://wiki.almalinux.org/elevate/ELevate-quickstart-guide.html), which leans heavily on the LEAPP Project (https://leapp.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) created for
in-place upgrades of RedHat-based systems.
Since the Elevate engine does not support direct conversion to RHEL 9 like OSes (AlmaLinux 9, RHEL 9,
RockyLinux 9), the conversion will be possible only from Plesk on CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8 and further to
AlmaLinux 9.

Plesk developers will consider implementing an upgrade path CentOS 7 -> Almalinux 8 -> Almalinux 9 in the
future. However, currently, we are concentrating on the CentOS 7 -> AlmaLinux 8 upgrade path.
