Title: Battery for Pangolin P5
Post by: mahesh on Oct 28, 2023, 07:22 AM
I have a Pangolin P5 purchased in 2009 that is basically in perfect working order, but, of course, the battery is pretty much shot after nine years.

I checked the System76 website, and was not able to find any place to purchase new parts, and figuring that parts might very well not be carried on such an old model, I went looking for the battery part number on Newegg. I was able to find a compatible 9-cell part (the original is 6-cell), and thought the extra capacity would do me good, so I purchased two to have a spare. Unfortunately, when it actually arrived, I discovered that while the part I had found was electrically compatible, it was not mechanically compatible: it does not leave sufficient clearance in back for the screen to open completely. So I have two questions:

1) Before I return the batteries to Newegg, does anyone know of any adapters on the market that could be used to solve the clearance issue (for instance, something that fits into the battery slot and is flush with the back of the laptop, but has a mounting point for the battery lower down)?

2) If I do need to return the batteries, does System76 sell parts for models as far back as the P5?
