I began with Ubuntu over 7 years ago with 14.04. Dual boot system with Windows XP. What a wonderful experience, able to have new, fast system, yet retain old Windows configuration that at this point does not need or use Internet.
All of my upgrades have been trouble free with each new LTS version. The latest upgrade to 20.04 was the best of all.
I am careful to read instructions each time and avoid pitfalls. I am a Unity lover and have chosen to continue that. I was surprised and pleased that everything in Unity was configured properly in the upgrade without me doing anything. Remarkable.
I decided not to remove obsolete packages because disk space is not an issue, and I saw that some had problems resolving issues relating to the removed packages.
My children deal with the pitfalls of Windows 11 and lack of ability to control it, forever updates, and slow performance. I recently showed a Spectrum technician how fast my system is, and he could hardly believe it.
Thanks to all who support Ubuntu. It is such a pleasure to use. 10 second boots and no hard resets ever are my current experience. I am 74, so my wife and I enjoy keeping things familiar. I am amazed at how well the 20.04 upgrade went. Not a single problem after several months!
