Title: Password protected folders on home file server
Post by: mahesh on Oct 02, 2023, 02:18 AM
I just recently set up a home file server running Ubuntu server 20.04. I made this server so every member of my family can use it, but I don't want each person to be able to look through everyone's specific folder. What I want to do is have each family member have their own password so only they can access their folder. This is how it is set up now when click on my home server in file manager from windows 10 (we all run that OS):

(network/10.x.x.xx/servername/)

Family Member 1
Family Member 2
Family Member 3
Family Member 4

How would I make it so if for example Family Member 3 wanted to go into their folder, a window would pop up asking for their credentials to access this folder after they clicked their name and they would have their own password to type in and that password would be different from everyone else's?
I have been looking around and have not found a way to do this if it is possible so any help would be great. Thanks.
